The new HT series from Blackstar would be incomplete without a MKII version of the smoking HT-5R. This time around, with the HT-5R MKII, you’re getting a two-channel tube combo-amp with even more possibilities. Both channels come with a voice button. When you need something heavier, simply switch from full, British-sounding crunch to American high-gain distortion with more definition and resonance. When things need to be a little cleaner, Blackstar allows you to change from a UK, mid-range amp sound to a tighter, bass-rich tone that can only be found across the pond.

HT-5R MkII: your favourite sound with your very own vibe

Once you’ve dialled in your favourite sound and tweaked it using the 3-band equaliser, you can use the ISF control to really make it your own. Via the mono FX loop, you can add your own arsenal of effects pedals too and even engage the built-in reverb. As well as the layout of the controls being very user-friendly, you also have an aux in for connnecting external sound sources and jack and XLR outputs complete with speaker simulation. If you need even more power, the HT-5R MKII will happily hook up with any 8 or 16-ohm speaker.

Blackstar HT-5R MkII 1x12 Combo Valve Guitar Amplifier

Ben bij Bax in Apeldoorn wezen proberen met wat versterkers, maar deze blackstar zonder overbodige toeters en bellen klinkt echt fantastisch. De buizen versterker met de overdrive aan, geeft mijn Stratocaster het lang gezochte echte fender geluid. Met slechts 5 watt vermogen durf ik hem thuis niet echt volume te geven, zonder de buren te trakteren op een openlucht concert. Gelukkig kan hij ook op 0,5 watt wat voor in huis echt al meer dan voldoende is. De kwaliteit van het geluid blijft het zelfde. Het inregelen van de tonen is zeer nauwkeurig. En de keuze met de isf knop tussen de Amerikaanse en de Engelse sound ook verrassend goed! Door de buizenversterker krijgt het sound zijn warme en het vette fender geluid!

Al een tijd speelde ik op een Yamaha THR10c nadat ik verhuisde naar een gehorige woning. De Yamaha beviel uitstekend omdat deze op laag volume goed klinkt. Maar.... ik miste toch een voller buizensound die ook nog eens goed klinkt met mijn pedalboard. Na een lange zoektocht naar een geschikte versterker (die dus niet té luid is en burenruzies voorkomt) kwam ik gelukkig uit op de Blackstar HT-5R MkII.

De ingebouwde attenuator die ervoor zorgt dat je terug kan schakelen naar 0.5W, maakt de Blackstar de perfecte versterker om thuis geweldige sounds tot stand te brengen. Het clean kanaal is mijn favoriet en is de perfecte basis voor ieder pedalboard. Verder heeft de versterker een FX loop waardoor je modulation effecten nog beter klinken en zorgt de usb aansluiting ervoor dat je geen extra audio interface hoeft aan te schaffen voor het opnemen van je gitaar.

Probeer de HT-5R uit en je bent verkocht!

Na 16 jaar geen gitaar meer te hebben aangeraakt, heb ik toch besloten eens opnieuw te beginnen. De gitaar had ik al, de versterker nog niet. Na ettelijke uren opzoekwerk, reviews kijken en lezen, besloot ik van de Blackstar HT-5R MkII te bestellen.

Deze lag wel iets boven mijn budget, maar het aangename geluid van een buizenversterk maakt dit helemaal goed. De versterker heeft een handige optie om de power output van 5W naar 0,5W te zetten waardoor je de buren niet zo snel irriteerd. Op 5W kan die best luid gaan, eigenlijk te luid voor thuis, maar dat hoort er soms wel eens bij. De versterker heeft een mooi clean geluid en de overdrive kan on the fly switchen tussen US en UK tones met een simpele draaiknop. Verder kan men per kanaal (clean en overdrive) naar een tweede 'voice' gaan, waardoor je nog eens een heel andere sound kan hebben. Met de bijgeleverde footswitch kan je makkelijk switchen tussen de 4 kanalen (clean1, clean2, OD1 en OD2), welke bij veel merken eens durft te ontbreken en als extra wordt verkocht.

Kort gezegd: deze versterker heeft veel mogelijkheden en is zeker het overwegen waard als je op zoek bent naar iets nieuws.

Excellent amp, perfect for home practice. A huge range of clean and overdriven tones. Both the clean and overdriven channels can switch between UK and brighter US tone voices which all sound great. It does get fairly loud when cranked, maybe loud enough to jam - though you may want to consider the 20W version if playing along with a drummer.

The only negative is that there's not a lot of headroom on the clean channels which start to distort when you turn the volume up; to keep a clean sound you need to back off the volume on the guitar which is a little annoying but the tone is pleasing nonetheless.

In addition there's a bundle of features that you don't always find on valve amps of this size: Headphone socket, emulated out, USB out, 12" speaker, effects loop, and a good quality reverb.

Overall, an excellent purchase for some home rocking!
