General
Meinl chose to make this set of claves out of African redwood for good reason. Thanks to this wood type's high density, the CL2RW claves have a relatively low pitch, without losing the sharp, dry sound that they need to cut through the mix. These instruments are especially well-suited for South American and African music.

The set consists of two different clave sticks: the hembra and the macho. The hembra is slightly thicker and has a flattened bit in the middle, which allows for enhanced resonance. It is commonly held in the left hand, with the flat part directed towards the palm of your hand. You then use the macho stick to strike the middle of the hembra for optimal effect.
