Mapex includes a standard snare drum with its Armory series shell sets, but it also gives drummers the chance to add a different edition to their set-up. One of those different versions is this Armory Exterminator: you had better warn your band mates before you start playing this one, although you will probably still startle them with this 14 x 6.5-inch snare. With its immense impact, powerful attack and broad projection it really aims to live up to its name.
Mapex Armory Exterminator 14 x 6.5-inch snare drum: 7-ply birch and walnut
The shell of the Mapex Armory Exterminator snare is made of seven plies of birch and walnut. It is equipped with 2.3mm Power Hoops and chrome hardware. The 45-degree bearing edge ensures great sustain and resonance, while the consistent tuning of the snare is thanks to the Armory tube lugs, that also provide extra stability for the shell. Besides that, these carefully crafted tube lugs also add to this snare's modern appearance.
The Piston strainer and vertical throw-off of this 14 x 6.5-inch snare drum are quick and easy to use and ensure that the tension on the snare wires stays as consistent as possible.

De ketel en rims zijn keurig vlak afgeleverd (ook wel eens anders gezien....).
Geweldig fijne attack. Met een Puresound mat eronder super sensitief vanaf zeer lage volumes en met een "droog" vel erop perfect voor mij, zonder gels of tape.
De snare is goed en variabel te stemmen en loopt bijna niet terug (Tunebot).
Momenteel gebruik ik een redelijk hoge Dennis Chambers stemming voor funk en rock, en zowel met een mic erop als op afstand met recorder klinkt de snare absoluut fraai en duidelijk.
Ik ben zeker geen hardhitter. ;-)
Serieus een hele fijne snaredrum en in die zin enorm betaalbaar.
De hardware is fraai, goed afgewerkt en voelt degelijk aan.
In deze prijsklasse, maar eigenlijk überhaupt, een aanrader als je een krachtige warme, goed beheersbare snare zoekt.
Na een jaar intensief gebruik nog steeds zéér tevreden. Heerlijk ding.
