General
The Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 bass amp head loads a preamp and DI pedal into the same housing as a 500 Watt Class-D amplifier and features an AGS drive and an FX loop, packing the complete Aguilar treatment away in one lightweight box. The tone of this amp head is supported by deep basses, rich mids and sultry trebles, which can be varied and customised at will via the fitted three-band EQ section, the richly coloured built-in drive function and the flexible FX loop. All this from a wee head that weighs in at a mere 2 kilograms and could easily slot in the front pocket of a gig bag.
The Aguilar Tone Hammer 500: A Versatile Powerhouse
This amplifier might be small, but it's more than powerful enough to take on small to medium-size stages, where it sets you up with 500 Watts of output at 4 Ohms or 250 Watts at 8 Ohms. Next to that, the TH500 is surprisingly easy to use. The front panel lines up your gain, drive and master volume controls, plus bass, mid (with adjustable frequency) and treble controls for accurately boosting or filtering out specific frequencies and hammer your custom tone into shape. With this head, you can even add your favourite rack effects to the signal via the serial effects loop port mounted on the front.
Drive Function & DI
The drive function of the Tone Hammer 500 comes fully equipped with Aguilar’s in-house developed Adaptive Gain Shaping circuit (AGS), which intuitively adjusts the gain structure and EQ, allowing you to effortlessly swing from the tight and modern output demanded by slap techniques to a warm and more vintage-flavoured clean or overdrive. To finish, a balanced XLR DI output complete with a pre-post EQ switch has also been added, so this head can be directly hooked up to record or play live.
