General
Orange's years of expertise and reputation has culminated in the Orange Dual Dark 100. This full-valve guitar amplifier top produces that sought-after British guitar sound, with the added options of a newly voiced Channel A. Four EL34 power amp tubes and five ECC83 preamp tubes push the 100 Watts of power this amp is capable of and using the tube-driven effects loop, you can incorporate your pedalboard into your tube stack. Even though the Dual Dark 100 is cloaked in black, this is the genuine Orange article.
Dual Dark 100: Attenuator and Power Switch
It's universally acknowledged that a tube amplifier with great sound to start with, really starts to shine when you push it. Unless you use powersoak, going full force for an overdriven sound usually means ear-splitting volume. The attenuator fitted in the Dual Dark 100, however, shows you that there's another way. By by shutting down one or several tubes, the power output is reduced to 70, 50 or 30 Watts, so that a rich, overdriven tube sound can be gained at lower volumes. This means that you can decide the amount of headroom you have before overdriving the Dual Dark 100.
Two Channels
The addition of the A Channel gives this 2-channel amp a clean, warm tone that can be dialed in using the bass, mids and treble pots, as well as gain and volume. Channel B is home to the famous Orange crunch sound and has a similar character to the Dark Terror. On the back, there are connectors for two footswitches, for flipping between channels or activating the attenuator. Additionally, the three speaker outputs (1x 16 Ohms, 2x 8 Ohms) allow for a single 16/8 Ohms cabinet or two 16-Ohm cabinets, so the choice is entirely yours.
