A separate head-and-cabinet setup gives you more flexibility than a combo, but you’ll want a head that has just as much character as a valve amp – without the weight and without having to replace a set of valves. That’s exactly what the Laney Ironheart Foundry IRF120H offers. This fully analogue 120-watt guitar head is designed to match the tone and playing feel of the valve version from the Ironheart series, but in a lightweight and compact 7.5 kg cabinet. Two independent channels – Rhythm and Lead – give you everything from crisp clean tones to aggressive high-gain crunch, and thanks to the switchable Low Power mode of less than 1 Watt, you can play just as easily in your bedroom as on a large stage.

Studio-quality connectivity

Using LA·IR technology, you can send a balanced XLR DI output with cabinet simulation directly to your mixing desk or audio interface, so you get a full, recording-ready sound without needing a microphone for a cabinet. If you connect the USB-C port to your computer, you can also use the IRF120H as an audio interface and manage presets via the free LA·IR app, where you can even load your own impulse responses. Want to practise quietly? The headphone output automatically follows the cabinet simulation, so you’re always listening to your own sound. A switchable boost, a serial effects loop and digital reverb give you plenty of scope to shape your sound to your liking, whilst the effects loop also doubles as an additional line-out.
