General

Combining wood types is not exactly a rare thing in the drumming business, but with the combination of birch and bubinga, Tama has certainly struck gold. The birch gives this Starclassic Performer BB shell set its robust attack, while the bubinga gives it some warmth by emphasising the lower frequencies. This four-piece shell set consists of a 22 x 18-inch bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms and a 16 x 14-inch floor tom, all in a beautiful three-tone Tri-Burst Tobacco finish.

This shell set's tom and floor tom shells are 6 mm thick, as they are made of three plies of bubinga and four plies of birch. The bass drum received an extra ply of birch, however, making it 8 mm thick. Furthermore, the sturdy shells have die-cast hoops that have no structural weaknesses, which is a good thing as they are mounted by their hoops. This StarCast tom mounting system eliminates the need to drill unnecessary holes into the shells, allowing them to resonate freely. Even the floor toms features some sound-preserving methods, as they feature Air Cushioned legs with special air chambers that prevent the vibrations from disappearing into the ground.

Hardware

Thanks to the MTH-1000 tom holder, the toms can be mounted at any desired angle, as it features ball joints. Meanwhile, the Quick-Lock system on the toms and floor tom ensures that setting up and tearing down your kit is a quick and easy affair. The wooden bass drum hoops are held in place by Tama's well-known claw hooks that feature a rubber lining. Finally, all shell hardware features a shiny chrome finish.
