In the Starclassic Performer BB series, those two Bs stand for birch and bubinga, the two wood types that are combined in these shells, giving them the tonal properties of both - the warm sound of bubinga and the powerful punch of birch. This set consists of a 22 x 16-inch virgin bass drum, a 12 x 8-inch tom and a 16 x 16-inch floor tom with a remarkable Molten Brown Burst Finish

The 6mm-thick tom and floor tom shells in this set are made of three inner plies of bubinga and four outer plies of birch, while the bass drum has five plies of birch, making it 8 mm thick. Furthermore, the tom and floor tom hoops are die-cast, making them exceedingly durable. And that's a good thing, as the StarCast tom mounting system suspends the toms from their hoops instead of the shells, allowing them to resonate freely. The floor tom's resonance is just as impressive, as it is equipped with Air Cushioned legs that feature a special air chamber that prevents the vibrations in the shell from disappearing into the ground. Additionally, the bass drum is a so-called virgin model, which means it has no holes drilled into it so nothing impedes the tone.

Hardware

Because this set has a virgin bass drum, you will need to mount the tom to a separate stand with the handy, included MC69 clamp. Furthermore, the tom and floor tom are fitted with Tama's Quick-Lock system, ensuring that setting up and tearing down your drum set is a quick and easy job. The special bass drum claw hook feature a rubber lining that keeps them from damaging the bass drum hoops and prevents them from rattling, even is you tune your bass drum very loosely. Finally, this set comes equipped with Evans Clear drumheads and all the hardware on the shells has a chrome finish.
