General

For their Starclassic Performer BB series, Tama tried a new combination of wood types by combining birch and bubinga to give this shell set a unique sound. After thirty years, the power of birch is now combined with the warm low frequencies of bubinga. The kit consists of a 22 x 18-inch bass drum, a 12 x 8-inch tom and a 16 x 14-inch floor tom that feature a Red Oyster Duracover wrap.

PR42S-ROY

The 6mm-thick tom and floor tom shells are made of three inner plies of bubinga wrapped in four outer plies of birch, while the bass drum has five plies of birch, making it 8 mm thick. The toms are mounted to the MTH1000 double tom holder, which features two ball joints so that you can easily mount your toms at the desired angle. Furthermore, the StarCast tom mounting system suspends the toms from the hoops instead of the shells, to prevent any loss of tone. This same effect is achieved in the floor toms by equipping them with Air Cushioned legs, which feature a special air chamber to prevent the vibrations from disappearing into the ground.

Other hardware

All hardware on these shells features a chrome finish. You are, for instance, provided with Tama's bass drum claw hooks that hold the bass drum hoops in place and feature a rubber lining to prevent them from damaging the hoops and to keep them from rattling. Furthermore, the tom and floor tom hoops are made of die-cast metal so that they are equally strong all over, allowing them to evenly distribute the tension on the (included) Evans drumheads. And setting up and tearing down your drum kit has never been faster, thanks to the Quick-Lock brackets on the toms and floor tom.
