If you're looking for the best of both worlds on the bass front within a set budget, Squier is the bass player's best friend. This Fender affiliate offers the Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ, for example. This version has a 3-colour Sunburst finish and a pickup configuration that takes up a starring role, as it features a Jazz Bass single coil in the bridge position and a Precision Bass split single-coil in the mid position.
Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ
Thanks to the independent volume control, the choice is all yours. Those who like to have a growling, present and warm Jazz Bass sound can unleash the bridge pickup and for more punch and a more basic sound that carries, there's always the split single coil. Naturally, these pickups can be combined and the master tone control will fetch you the desired sound in no time. This is a very smooth guitar to play, thanks to its slender, C-shape neck.
The Squier brand

In order to be able to provide a reliable and attractive alternative for beginners, Fender started their subsidiary Squier in 1982. De bas is goed gebouwd, stevig en licht. De afwerking is goed. Niks aan te merken op frets, toets en lak etc. De nut is wat plasticachtig, maar dat is OK. Electronica is goed. Fabriekssnaren heb ik snel vervangen door D'Addario EXL 165 (45-105) en dat was een hele verbetering.
De bas is goed bespeelbaar, de hals ligt goed in de hand. Ik zocht een goedkope Precision maar kreeg deze met de Jazz pickup erbij. Dat geeft een forse uitbreiding van het tonenpalet en dat is een goede zaak.
Dit is mijn eerste bas. Voor de prijs een geweldig instrument dat ik vaak bespeel. De PJ elementconfiguratie geeft je best of both worlds. Het is een instrument met klassieke uitstraling dat erg goed klinkt en aanvoelt. Een no-brainer. Doen!
