Using the Player Series as a more-than solid starting point, the next-gen Player Plus Series includes a fully upgraded and future-proofed 5-string Jazz Bass. The essence of a classic J-bass is retained by the rounded alder body and bolt-on maple neck, but this model starts to depart from tradition when you get to the smoother and faster feel of the satin-gloss-coated neck, lightly stamping out a more progressive character.

The neck of this 5-string bass also bears a more comfy feel in the fret-hand due to the modern-C profile and flattened 12 inch fretboard radius. Besides snug and balanced playability, this instrument has been set up to deliver balanced amplified sound via a pair of Noiseless Player Plus J-style single-coils that, using just the volume and pan pots, can be made to span a broad tonal palette. But as soon as you find the fitted mini-switch, it becomes clear that this bass actually has far more on offer than just classic, clean and clear passive sound.

In-Depth Tone via an Active Circuit

By simply flicking the mini-switch, the electronics section is flipped from passive into active mode to double the sonic range and, via the expanded three-band EQ controls, hands you deeper and more detailed power over your sound. This feature alone makes the Player Plus Jazz Bass V the versatile, genre-hopping instrument that it is. To finish, the familiar set of trusted open-gear machine heads have been left untouched and coupled up with the far improved stability and feel of a stable HiMass bridge.
