In addition to the P-style split coil in the mid position, it also has a J-style single-coil in the bridge position. Both pickups are Fender's newly-developed Yosemite models that have flat staggered poles giving them a higher output. They also have a shellac coating to prevent problems with feedback. Two volume controls allow you to find the perfect mix, while the Greasebucket Tone circuit gives you more control over the higher frequencies without the bass becoming too overbearing.
