General
This Marine Band Thunderbird was designed in close collaboration with harmonica legend Joe Filisko. Together with Hohner's engineers, he helped to develop the very first harmonica that could play in the lowest registers with ease. The result is a phenomenal sound that's suitable for use at home, on stage, and in the studio. It's tuned to a low F, and is played in cross harp style with music in the key of C.
The Marine Band Thunderbird
Filisko was a huge fan of Hohner's original Marine Band harmonica, but he needed one that could produce low tones. When playing in the lower registers, reeds can sometimes rattle and the response often leaves something to be desired. Thanks to a number of clever adjustments to the covers on the Marine Band, these problems could be prevented, giving the low reeds more space to reverberate. The volume level was also increased. This harmonica features Hohner's patented 3-layered lacquer bamboo comb that produces a great sound, doesn't swell up, and is comfortable to play. If you want a lot of power in a little package, then the Thunderbird is the harmonica for you!
Low tone, high quality
Hohner is known for quality instruments that are guaranteed to provide years of playing enjoyment. This harmonica produces low tones of remarkably good quality. After more than 150 years, the German brand can be considered the world expert when it comes to harmonicas. Each harmonica is inspected by hand before it leaves the factory, and delivered in a neoprene storage pouch to ensure it's in the same pristine condition when you open it.
