The Samson Auro X12D is a compact, portable active 2-way speaker with an exceptional sound. This powerful 12-inch class-D speaker has been constructed with high-grade components and it contains a DSP processor, which prevents the speaker from overloading and controls a linear phase filter and multiband compressor, so that you can enjoy a overwhelming and unique audio experience.
Auro X12D: class-D
Despite its light weight, the Samson Auro X12D has a continuous power of no less than 500 watts RMS, thanks to its highly efficient class-D amplifier. Heavy cooling elements are not required, so the entire unit remains easily portable. The Auro X12D is bi-amped, meaning that the woofer and tweeter are separately driven, ensuring a balanced, full, smooth and dynamic sound.
Handy casing
The housing of the Samson Auro X12D is made of moulded polypropylene. This lightweight synthetic material is scratchproof and can take a knock. A 35mm mount is fitted for mounting on a speaker stand. If you tilt the Auro X12D, it can be used as a floor monitor. At the rear you will find two XLR/jack combo connectors with separate volume controls, a master volume knob and switches for EQ Contour and a High Pass Filter (HPF). You can daisy chain the speakers via the XLR Link output.

Er zit een zgn. digitale soundprocessor in, maar stel je hier niet teveel van voor. De deep en boost settings doen wat mij betreft een beetje teveel hun best, waardoor het geluid onnatuurlijk gaat klinken. Beter is de versterker op flat te laten staan, en te EQ-en op je mengpaneel. Dan valt er best goed geluid uit te halen.
Een punt van kritiek betreft wel de laagweergave. Ondanks de 12" driver komt er geen mooi laag uit deze kast. Ik denk dat dat te maken heeft met de krappe behuizing, waardoor de driver onvoldoende volume heeft om tot zijn recht te komen.
Voor mij had de kast gewoon vierkant mogen zijn om dit te bereiken. Kennelijk heeft Samson hier geprobeerd de kast zo universeel mogelijk te maken, namelijk ook als wedge monitor, maar ten koste van het laag.
In combinatie met een kleine sub draaien ze lekker. Dan te bedenken dat mijn sub ook maar 12" is, en daar komt aanzienlijk meer laag uit.....
Beoordeling: 5 sterren voor de prijs, 3 voor het geluid > gemiddelde 4.
