Sequential Present the Prophet Desktop
NAMM or no NAMM, new gear will always drop, hot and fresh from the kitchens of the benevolent giants of the music world, and today, Dave Smith has dropped some particularly tasty offerings from the Sequential kitchen: tight and tidy desktop versions of the Prophet 5 and Prophet 10 synthesizers.
Your Desktop-Friendly Prophet
Just above, you can see the Prophet-10 Desktop, which in terms of aesthetics, is almost identical to the Prophet-5 Desktop. As with the keyboard-loaded versions, the only difference between these two sonic-sculpting beasts is their polyphonic capacity. For anyone who's unfamiliar with the Prophet 5, you're basically looking at one of the pillars of music history - at least over the last 40 years and some - since countless high-profile musicians of note shaped their definitive sound with the help of the P-5 back in the early '80s. The vintage, original version of the Prophet 10 was essentially two Prophet 5s rammed into one unit along with a fair few technical issues and the need for an extra two keyboards, which naturally makes it one of the most rare and sought-after synth-based collector's items in the known universe. But if hulking, imposing looks aren't all that important to you, and you're already kitted out with a great MIDI keyboard, then this more modern, desktop-friendly incarnation of the Prophet 10 will certainly satisfy. And if you're more than happy to halve the polyphony, then the Prophet 5 is just as good. Both are fully analogue yet come without a forty-year-old coat of dust and with the assurance of less quirky and more contemporary build quality, as well as both MIDI and USB MIDI connectivity.
It also goes without saying that these desktop versions are a little cheaper than the full-sized, keyboard versions, so your new Prophet will even save you a few pennies ... ish.
