While there are many different kinds of melodic or tuned percussion instruments out there, the most well-known has to be the xylophone. The xylophone is a percussion instrument made up of a number of wooden tone bars of differing lengths that together, form a scale. The tone bars are arranged from the lowest pitch to the highest pitch on a resonance box. Xylophones are particularly popular additions to the music rooms of most primary and secondary schools, and while they are not actually xylophones, there are many similar melodic percussive instruments that are often mistaken for one. The marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel, balafon, and metallophone are all often referred to as xylophones and as such, many of them can be found included in our range of xylophones. If you're looking for something else, we also have a separate section dedicated to other kinds of melodic percussive instruments.
