Lucida Bajo Quinto LG-BQ1-E electroacústico
General
Lucinda's LG-BQ1-E is an authentic Mexican Bajo Quinto. This ten-string instrument is quite prevalent in Mexican music. Because the Bajo Quinto has five bass strings that are each paired with a guitar string, this instrument produces a full, rich sound. It's traditionally tuned in Aa-Dd-Gg-Cc-Ff, but the alternative Aa-Dd-Gg-Bb-Ee tuning is also used quite often. If you're used to playing guitar, then the alternative tuning might be a little more comfortable for you. If you're a bass player, you might like the traditional tuning better since it's also tuned in all fourths. The Bajo Quinto is used for playing accompaniment, which it’s ideal for thanks to its deep bass tones and the possibility to play clear chord changes. In traditional Mexican music, the Bajo Quinto plays the role of the bass guitar and the rhythm guitar. The LD-BQ1-E has a mahogany body and neck, a spruce top and a rosewood fretboard for a clear, deep sound. The difference between the LG-BQ1-E and the LG-BQ1 by Lucinda is that this version has a pickup and a 4-band EQ. As such, it's possible to amplify the sound of the Bajo Qinto, and even to experiment with effects pedals.
Bajo Quinto
The Bajo Quinto (Spanish for 'fifth bass') is a variation of the Bajo Sexto. As you might have guessed, the only difference between the two instruments is the presence or absence of a pair of strings. The Bajo Sexto has an additional low E string that's paired with a high E string. The Bajo Quinto originally hails from southern Mexico, though you'll often hear it in music from northern Mexico and Texas. More specifically, you'll hear it in styles like Tex-Mex, conjunto, and música mexicana-tejana. Most of these bands consist of a Bajo Quinto and an accordion.
